Children stunting rate reach 34.8% because of poor sanitation in North Sulawesi

Sulawesi Utara still faces the problem of Open Defecation. The province has 2,387,000 population, of which 202,118 are children, but only 72.28% of its population has access to improved sanitation.

11.4% has no access to a toilet at all. School toilet facilities regarded as being in good condition only reach 27.60%.

The effect of poor sanitation contributes to the death of children in Sulawesi Utara up to 33 per 1,000 child birth and diarrhea incidence rate of 1.80% in children. Poor sanitation in Sulawesi Utara also contributes to a stunting rate of 34.8% in children.
